Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Oct. 23 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 35 members in attendance.The business session was conducted by President Eleanor Schmerfeld. Kathleen Valentine offered the invocation.Reports were presented by Gloria Gerhard and Shirley Becker. Birthday greetings were extended to Carol Sedlock. Thank you cards were received from Manny and Sylvia Garcia and Judy Mogish. Hubb Becker and Alberta Corch were added to the sick list. Betty Torso was welcomed back to the group.The annual Christmas party has been scheduled for Dec. 11 at noon.The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Adult Day CareThe Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center is seeking volunteers to serve on its board of directors.Anyone interested in serving on the board may call (570) 668-6577 or visit Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.Thanksgiving dinnerThe Tamaqua Salvation Army will sponsor a free community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22.Dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The center is located at 105 W. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session. Secretary Garber provided the invocation, entitled "November is a Thankful Time."Reports were offered by Vice President Nancy Gerber and secretary Garber. Ruth Kemmerer and Helene Clouser were added to the sick list.Condolences were offered to Ruth Veone and Norma Burke on the loss of their father.One new member, Anthony Valasko, was welcomed to the group.The meeting concluded with cards and social games.The group meets every Thursday at 1 p.m., at the community center.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.GriefShareBethany Evangelical Congregational Church will offer a special GriefShare seminar to help those grieving the loss of a loved one manage the holiday season. Entitled "Surviving the Holidays," the seminar will be offered on Dec. 2, at 2 p.m., at the church.The seminar will offer practical advice on ways to deal with your sorrow while others are celebrating the holidays.
