Members of the Tamaqua Volunteers community initiative group, are again holding their monthly Tamaqua Community Donation Drop-Off and Free Giveaway event this Saturday, November 17. They will be giving away over 10,000 items; most of which are smaller household items.

All donations, no matter how small or large, can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. at the storage lockers located next to Schickram's Car Wash, Rose Street in Tamaqua. The free giveaway, which is open to all income levels, starts sharply at 9:15 a.m.In case of rain or snow, the event will be held the day after, on Sunday, at the same times. They are asking residents to drop off all types of donations; to include small or large appliances, furniture, beds, toys, tools, clean clothing, clean bedding, household items and so on. The only items not accepted are floor model televisions, non-working appliances and old computer monitors. Anything clean, no matter how big or small, is accepted. All donations will be given away free to Tamaqua residents via a simple lottery drawing system. Currently, the donations are only available for Tamaqua (18252) residents.Organizers state that anyone receiving these donations must have identification to prove their 18252 residency. They added that donated items don't have to be in perfect condition. "All we ask is that they are usable and don't smell bad."Due to limited manpower and limited storage space, donations are not able to be transported by volunteers.Any items left over after the giveaway event are free for anybody, not just Tamaqua residents, to take.Thorn's Cycles and ATV's of Tamaqua is donating the land and storage facility for the event. This will be the last giveaway until weather warms up.For more information, call the organizer at (570) 668-1234.
