Annual Christmas dinner, concert by Lehighton Band

The annual Christmas Dinner and Concert by the Lehighton Band will be presented on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the American Legion on South Third Street in Lehighton.

A holiday dinner will be served by the staff of the Legion beginning at 6 p.m. followed by a concert of Christmas music beginning about 7 p.m.Over the years this event has become quite popular. No tickets will be sold at the door and the deadline for ordering your tickets is Sunday, Nov. 25.Tickets may be purchased from any member of the band, at Carbon County Music and More on South Second Street in Lehighton or by calling (610)377-9077 or (610)377-2737.The concert will include traditional Christmas carols, Christmas music found on the Broadway stage, other favorite holiday melodies as well as a trumpet solo played by Thomas Fritz.A novelty number which pairs several holiday melodies with John Philip Sousa's "Stars And Stripes Forever" will surely please the audience.The Lehighton Band is currently looking for new members. Rehearsals occur at the band hall on South Seventh Street in Lehighton every Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.Band Director Paul R. Smith said, "We will welcome members in every section of the band. If you haven't played your instrument for several (or many) years, now is the time to get it out of the attic and do some tooting. You will be amazed how quickly your talents will return."He said a good time to begin would be on Monday, Jan. 7 when the band will begin working on music for the 2013 season.For information call Smith at (610)377-2737.
