Picking the playoff winners is never easy

By ED HEDES

ehedes@tnonline.comWith the regular season put to bed, things get a little tougher here as we set sight on the post-season.By the looks of the standings, the real battle is for second place where as many as seven or eight of our prognosticators have a shot at those honors.Right now myself, Bob Ford and Mike Haines are all tied for that spot but it's anybody's guess who will sit there when the Grid Picks season winds down.So with some interesting matchups upon us, let's roll the dice and see what comes up:PLEASANT VALLEY AT STROUDSBURG - The Bears and the Mountaineers play in a rematch of what decided last week's Mountain Valley Conference Championship. Last week it was the Mounts that pulled one out, this week I'm going the other way ... Pleasant Valley, 21-20.NORTHERN LEHIGH AT CATASAUQUA - I covered the first meeting of these two a couple of weeks ago. With two minutes left in the half the Bulldogs trailed 7-0. Fumblitis set in and the Roughies ran away for an easy win. This time, look for the Bulldogs to be more focused and give the Roughies their toughest test of the season...Northern Lehigh, 13-6.PEN ARGYL AT TAMAQUA - The Green Knights are the defending District 11 2A champs and visit Raider Country for what should be one of the best matchups of the weekend. I went against Tamaqua too many times this year so I've learned my lesson...Tamaqua, 21-12.MARIAN AT TRI-VALLEY - The Colts have one tough defense against the run and that is the Vikings big offensive weapon. The big question is can they put points on the board with their banged up offense...Marian, 14-7.EAST STROUDSBURG SOUTH AT SCRANTON - The Cavaliers had their big game Monday night against arch-rival North and face a tough Scranton squad just a couple of days later...Scranton, 42-7.WHITEHALL AT DELAWARE VALLEY - The Zephyrs have been putting it together at the right time and they'll ned everything to go right to win this one. It does...Whitehall, 21-20.PARKLAND AT EASTON - I hardly ever pick against the Red Rovers when they play at home. Some how this week I am...Parkland, 21-14.BLUE MOUNTAIN AT CENTRAL CATHOLIC - The Vikings just know when it's playoff time and kick it into a higher gear... Central Catholic, 28-6.BANGOR AT SOUTHERN LEHIGH - Spartans have been on a roll since the last time they played the Slaters. Is the bubble ready to bust?...Bangor, 24-17.SHENANDOAH VALLEY AT WILLIAMS VALLEY - The Vikings have had quite a season and the big question is can they stop the Blue Devils passing game?...Williams Valley, 21-7.EMMAUS AT WYOMING VALLEY WEST - Going to flip the coin here since our Luzerne County scouts aren't really confident in WVW...Emmaus, 21-14.EAST STROUDSBURG NORTH AT NAZARETH - Blue Eagles start a new season and I'm sure want to make a little noise in the playoffs...Nazareth, 31-14.WILKES-BARRE MEYERS AT NORTH SCHUYLKILL - It's been a rough two weeks for the Spartans who answer the call without head coach Rick Geist who stepped down after being suspended for the final regular season game...North Schuylkill, 28-20.CARBONDALE AT PALISADES - Until Carbondale gets off the bus from the long ride, it'll wonder what sate it's in. The long ride home will be longer...Palisades, 21-14.SCHUYLKILL HAVEN AT BUCKTAIL - I'll pick a Hurricane over a deer anytime...Schuylkill Haven, 21-6.
