Mother accused of shooting baby waives right to hearing

A Slatington woman jailed after her toddler son was shot to death while in his crib has waived her right to a preliminary hearing.

Holly Pallone, 26, of 214 N. Walnut St., second floor apartment, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment.Pallone remains lodged in Lehigh County Prison under $1 million bail.Slatington police said Pallone was attempting to unload a .44-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun in a bedroom and was seated on a bed next to the child's crib.That's when the bullet entered and went through a mattress and into the crib striking the young boy, Anthony F. Pallone Jr, who was 19 months old.Police were called to the apartment about 11:53 p.m. Oct. 6, when they found the boy deceased in the crib. Lehigh County Coroner Scot Grim pronounced the boy dead at 12:47 a.m.He ruled the death a homicide.Pallone told police she was attempting to unload the gun because she was going to sell it for $200. The gun is registered to Lloyd Peters, who police said rents apartment 2B. He was not at home when the incident occurred, police noted.According to police, Pallone told them she took the gun off a shelf to get ready to sell. She said while sitting on her bed next to the crib she tried to unload it. As she was trying to remove the bullets, the gun went off.She also told police she didn't know anything about guns, including how to unload one.Assisting borough police in the investigation is the county district attorney's office, coroner's office, and the Lehigh County Homicide Task Force.
