Tamaqua man facing charges

A Tamaqua man faces charges after allegedly using someone else's credit card a total of 22 times.

Tamaqua Police Cpl. Henry Woods was notified of a lost CACL Federal Credit Union card on Oct. 29. The card went missing on Oct. 23 in the area of the Family Dollar Store, near Pine Street.The card's owner checked the transaction history and discovered the card had been used multiple times at Tamaqua businesses, including the William J. Murphy Beer Distributorship, Boyer's Food Market, Domino's Pizza, Turkey Hill Minute Mart, Family Dollar Store, the Hunan House and the Tamaqua Tobacco Outlet. The total amount of the purchases was $290.02.Woods checked the security footage from the beer distributorship and was able to identify the thief as Richard H. Melicharek, 50, of 214 Pine St. When confronted with the evidence, Melicharek admitted using the card and forging the cardholder's name.He faces charges of forgery, access device fraud, theft by deception and receiving stolen property.
