The Tamaqua Seniors met Oct. 25 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 86 members in attendance. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session and provided an inspirational reading. Secretary Joan Ann Garber and Vice President Nancy Gerber provided their reports.Joan Ann Garber also provided the invocation, entitled "The Rose."Gladys Arner, Anna Mae Yushinsky and Pearl Davis were added to the sick list.Apple dumpling orders will be accepted through Nov. 4, with delivery scheduled for Nov. 14.The meeting concluded with cards and social games.The group meets every Thursday at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.Older and bolderThe Tamaqua Salvation Army's Older and Bolder sessions have resumed regular weekly meetings, which are held Wednesdays, from 10 a.m. to noon.November activities will include: Nov. 7, a presentation on senior scams by Janene Holter and bell practice; Nov. 14 Thanksgiving celebration; Nov. 21, preparations for the Salvation Army Community Thanksgiving Dinner.This year's Hand Bell Tour will include stops at Sweet Arrow Lake on Dec. 1; Hometown Nursing Center, Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise and Majestic House on Dec. 4; St. Luke's on Dec. 5; Zion's in Lewistown Valley on Dec. 9; Jim Thorpe Railroad station on Dec. 15 and Union Station, Pottsville, on Dec. 21.For more information on any of these activities, contact Dina Depos at (570) 668-0410.Holy Name to meetThe Holy Name Society of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church will meet at 8 p.m. today. The meeting will be preceded by a Mass, at 7:30 p.m.First MethodistThe Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. The service will include a children's message, offered by Marge Kropp, and Holy Communion. Sunday school will be held following the message.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m. and a Bible study session will be at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, the chancel choir will rehearse at 7 p.m.Calvary EvangelicalRally Day services will be held this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Activities will include music, puppets, story telling and lessons beginning at 10:30 a.m.Black Creek will perform a mini concert at 6:30 p.m. this Sunday as part of the Rally Day services.St. Peter's UnionThe Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include Holy Communion and a memorial book dedication. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m., Daisies, Brownies and Cub Scouts will all meet at 6 p.m.Activities for next week will include: Thursday, hoagie pickup from noon to 2 p.m., prayer group will meet at 4:45 p.m., junior choir practices at 7 p.m. and the senior choir will rehearse at 7:30 p.m.
