A fire is burning underground near a mine pit about a half mile northeast of Lansford's Andrewsville section. Apparently the fire is feeding on coal. Glowing coals are visible in holes beneath the surface. The burning area coves about 15 square feet. The burning area is between a stripping road and a pit into which debris has been dumped, including the body of a scrapped car. The fire was discovered this week by Robert Vybrenner of Lansford, who was hunting small game on Hauto Mountain and saw smoke.
