Recent rains have done little to ease water problems in Monroe County, county emergency services coordinator Marv Stuart reported to the county commissioners. Stuart said that although rainfall has been about average in recent weeks, the drought emergency has gotten worse if anything. The problem, he said, was the rain fell on dry ground during the growing season. "As a result, all the water was slurped, may I say, and did not get into the ground," he added.
