Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Oct. 9 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 39 members in attendance. The business session was conducted by President Eleanor Schmerfeld.Birthday greetings were extended to Louise Horn. The annual Christmas party has been scheduled for Dec. 11 at noon.The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Black out bullyingNext Friday, Oct. 26, the Tamaqua and Minersville Area School Districts will be cooperating in an effort to address the issue of bullying, while competing on the football field.Teams, cheerleaders and support staff on both sides of the playing field will have the color black incorporated into their uniforms as part of the two districts "Black Out Bullying Campaigns." Parents, guardians and fans are encouraged to also wear black that evening in support of the effort to raise awareness to the cause."Bullying is a national issue that demotes self worth and promotes adversarial relationships. By bringing awareness and working with another school district, our hope is to educate and then substantially reduce bullying and its effect on our students," notes a press release jointly issued by the schools' principals, Stephen Toth of Tamaqua and Carl McBreen of Minersville.Donations toward the Schuylkill County Youth Conference, which provides programs to Schuylkill County youth, will be accepted during the game.Youth workshopZion Evangelical Lutheran Church will host a youth protection workshop from 2-4 p.m. on Nov. 4. The program is open to all area volunteers who work with children. Such training is often required by church and organization policies and insurance carriers.Melissa B. Dr. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley.Also on Sunday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.On Wednesday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 7 p.m.Rally Day services will be held Nov. 4. Special music, a puppet show, storytelling and more will be held at 10:30 a.m. Black Creek will present a concert at 6:30 p.m.SS. Peter and PaulNov. 1 is the Feast of All Saints, a holy day of obligation for Catholics. The Rev. William Linkchorst will officiate at a Mass at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Masses at 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Thursday in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.First Friday will be observed next week. Communion calls for residents of Coaldale and Hometown will be made on Thursday, with all others visited on Friday. Confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by Mass and devotions at 8 a.m.Nov. 4 will be a Fatima Saturday. A recitation of the rosary and devotions will be held before the 8 a.m. Mass.Members of the parish Holy Rosary Society will attend the 8 a.m. Mass on Sunday, Nov. 5, to receive Holy Communion as a group. The rosary will be recited before Mass.
