A Kidder Township man who allegedly struck his mother with a BB gun, and then shot her with it, has waived his preliminary hearing.

Dale Michael Wakefield, 20, of Albrightsville, faces 12 charges in connection with an incident that happened during the early morning hours of Sept. 2.Wakefield was scheduled to have a hearing on the charges before District Judge Edward Lewis of Jim Thorpe, but opted to waive the proceedings to Carbon County Court.He is charged with two counts of terroristic threats, four counts of simple assault, two counts of recklessly endangering another person, three counts of harassment, and one count of unauthorized use of automobiles or other vehicles.He is lodged in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $75,000, 10 percent bail.The arresting officer is Trooper Charles Phelps of the Fern Ridge barracks of the state police.Trooper Phelps writes in the affidavit that on Sept. 2 at 4:50 a.m., he was dispatched to a location in Penn Forest Township to meet with Theresa Ann Wakefield, who is Dale's mother.When he met Theresa, he was informed that she and Dale had been involved in an altercation.The affidavit states:"The victim related that her son has a suspended license and wanted the keys to her vehicle. The victim stated that he could not have them."The defendant then became enraged, pulled her hair, and threw her up against the wall. The victim stated that he then got a BB gun and pointed it in her face. The defendant then swung it like a bat and struck the victim in the head, the left rib area, and right arm with the BB gun."After striking the victim the defendant then shot her in the right thigh causing a bruise. At the time, the victim was able to run from the residence and flag down a car."She was taken to the Penn Forest Fire Company where she called police.Initially, police were unable to find Dale, the affidavit says.At 5:43 a.m., police were dispatched to the Wakefield residence where "the defendant had returned and held a knife to the victim's throat."The affidavit says that the defendant claimed his mother owed him money and he also wanted the keys to the vehicle. It adds, "He then pulled a knife. At that time the victim ran down the hallway in an attempt to get to her bedroom. The defendant ran after her and pushed her onto the bed face down. The defendant had the knife to her back and then held the knife to her throat."The mother told the son, according to the affidavit, that the money was in the vehicle. Both went to the vehicle where "the victim stated that she then attempted to get in the vehicle to get away, and he pulled her out of the vehicle by her hair."By the time police arrived at the residence, Dale had left with his mother's vehicle.
