Summit Hill's zoning enforcement officer Larry Marek expects to be replaced next month.

He actually expected the action to occur at this week's meeting of the borough council, but the council opted to table the matter until next month.The council is looking at hiring a professional firm to serve as code enforcement officer, handle zoning, and do health inspections.At this week's meeting, the council was anticipating hiring Barry Isett and Associates of Trexlertown, a professional engineering firm, to serve in this capacity. However, the council said another proposal was received.Councilman Bill Chapman suggested that the matter be discussed in executive session, but Council President Mike Kokinda said it has to be decided at an open meeting.Marek said he would be doing the work for the borough at much less cost than what a professional, outside firm will.He said he will continue serving the borough until offiically told he is replaced.The council then tabled action until next month to give each member time to review the proposals.Meanwhile, the council received a letter of resignation from John Kosalko as a member of the borough's Planning Commission.The leaves only two members remaining on the five-member panel. Among them is Kokinda.Because two members is less than a majority, the Planning Commission cannot meet until another appointment occurs.Any borough resident interested in serving on the Planning Commission is urged to give a letter of application at the borough hall.In the monthly report from Isett & Associates on activities for the month of September, six projects were addressed. On one, an abandoned building has been secured with padlocks. on another, an owner has not submitted plans for building renovations.On three projects, Isett indicated "no response from property owner."On the sixth project, involving a former service station called Heffy's, the report says "final plans have been reviewed and a building permit will be issued."
