A Lehighton man is facing charges following an incident in the borough that occurred on Sept. 6.

Borough police said Edwin Mertz, 53, of 131 Mauch Chunk St., has been charged with two counts of theft and receiving stolen property, and one count of defiant trespass.Police allege that on Sept. 6 he entered a property in the 400 block of Mahoning St., and removed bicycles and a riding lawn mower from the backyard area without authorization of the property owner. Prior to the incident Mertz had been warned by the property owner not to go onto the property, police added.Once in custody Mertz admitted he took the items so he could sell them to a junk yard for money, police said.A preliminary hearing on the charges is scheduled for Oct. 17 at 1:15 p.m.
