The Sept. 24 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers was opened by President Ronnie Bazik with a prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of God Bless America.The special guest speaker was Nick Hawkey from "Dream Come True." Hawkey volunteers playing Santa at Children's parties and collects for the Red Kettle Collection for the Salvation Army.The Sunshine report was given by Nancy Canzoneri. Irene Hudasky presented her travel report.The next meeting will be Monday, Oct. 8 at St. John Slovak Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., in Lansford beginning at 1 p.m. Bingo is scheduled to be played.Summit HillFree movieThe One Love Foundation, based out of Summit Hill, will show a documentary film of the organization's recent efforts in war-ravaged Sierra Leone, Africa on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Angela Theater in Coaldale. Admission to the film is free and is the organization's way of saying "thank you" to its supporters.Hydrant flushingThe Summit Hill Water Authority will be flushing hydrants the week of Oct. 8. You may experience low water pressure and/or discoloration during that time.Shade Tree CommissionThe Summit Hill Shade Tree Commission will be conducting its fall tree plantings along the borough streets on Friday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Oct. 27. Any borough residents or businesses interested in having a tree planted in front of their property may call John Kupec at (570) 645-9644 or Lou Vermillion at 645-9772 for information.Memorial trees will also be planted. Donations toward the cost of the trees will be accepted. Trees will be ordered in mid-October. Volunteers on the planting days are always welcome as well as contributions to the Shade Tree Commission's efforts.LansfordSt. John LutheranTonight at 7 p.m., St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, will hold an informal worship. This will be a spiritual, peaceful, evening service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this relaxed, brief, musical, evening prayer. For those who wish to come early, a free simple supper is served at 6 p.m., followed by a brief adult Bible study and confirmation program at 6:30. For more information call the Rev. The auxiliary welcomed special guests Karen Bandzi, District 20 president, and Miriam Mack.A dues reminder letter will be sent out to all unpaid members.Miller bloodmobile collections were held on July 11 and Sept. 5. Several members were among the donors.The Voice of Democracy information will be downloaded and presented to Panther Valley High School.Gertrude Hawk sheets are due back by Oct. 31 and delivery will be in early December.President Breiner reported on the recent flag burning ceremony in which Scout units also participated.Donations were made to the 100 mile Diabetes March from Erie to Pittsburgh, Operation Uplink, MAP, Unmet Needs, and the VOD Perpetual Scholarship Program, along with the Post. Buddy Poppies will be ordered and a November date will be set for Redner's.The annual Veterans Day Parade will be hosted by Palmerton on Sunday, Nov. 11. Palmerton will also be dedicating its new Veterans Monument in the park earlier that day.A tentative date of Dec. 1 was set for the Children's Christmas Party.District President Bandzi inspected the Auxiliary and found it in good working order.The next meeting will be held Tuesday, Oct. 9, 6:30 p.m. at the Post Home.CoaldaleLions to meetThe Coaldale Lions will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at the Viennese Villa in town.
