Those extra curricular, after-school activity calendars can be killers for those dual-sport student athletes and their families who must do some serious schedule juggling.

The game clock was indeed ticking down for the Keith Seeley family of Berwick last Friday. For many years, Seeley has been an assistant football coach on the staff of Pennsylvania's all-time winningest coach, George Curry.The records of Coach Curry and his vaunted Berwick football program are legendary: Six PIAA Class AAA State Championships; three mythical National Championships; nine undefeated seasons; 73 AP all-state players; 37 Big 33 players; 13 Berwick quarterbacks sent to Division 1 schools just to name some of the wall-of-fame achievements over the last four decades.Seeley is one of the scores of student-athletes Curry has helped place into Division-1 football programs. He graduated from Boston College where he played as a defensive back with some of the Doug Flutie-led teams of the mid-1980s.While Curry was like a father figure to Seeley and his teammates on those storied Berwick teams of the 1980s, the coach is now grooming a second generation of Bulldog players. In fact, Curry's own grandson CJ is quarterback on this year's Berwick team.As for the most recent after-school juggling act, Keith Seeley's daughter Olivia had a soccer game last Friday afternoon so he waited for that game (a 3-0 Berwick win) to end before driving his daughter to Selinsgrove where the Bulldogs' football team was facing an undefeated Seals' team.It was critical for Olivia, a 5-6 sophomore, to get to this game on time, but not just to cheer on the Bulldogs from the stands.She's Berwick's placekicker.The two teams traded first quarter touchdowns before Olivia booted Berwick into the lead with a field goal before the half ended. The Bulldogs added some insurance points with a touchdown late in the game but it was Olivia's three-pointer that gave Berwick the lead for good.With the incredible string of football successes Berwick fans have gotten used to seeing over the years, no win could have been sweeter. After suffering a rare lopsided loss the week before against conference rival Wyoming Valley West, the Bulldogs had to rebound and beat an undefeated team on its own field.This was high school sports and devoted parenting at its finest. Olivia Seeley got to experience a rare day-night doubleheader victory in two different sports at two different high school campuses, and both on the same extra-curricular day.And her father, a soccer dad and football parent who happens to coach on one of the most successful programs in the nation, couldn't be prouder to have worn yet another hat on that memorable day ... one of chauffeur for his daughter.By Jim Zbickjzbick@tnonline.com
