Lately there seems to be more and more municipalities that have had disruptive meetings. Local residents disgusted with the way their monies are being spent. Some even turn into a ruckus that persons need to be ejected. Not so, at the East Penn Township meetings! No, those meetings are more like a circus! Yes, at times, a three-ring circus! Imagine, if you will, a large tent over the East Penn Township Social Hall, and in the center are the large three rings of the circus! The first act to take place is the order of business. The supervisors jump into the ring and attempt to explain the current events. The act barely gets under way when a few clowns jump in! There is a veteran clown by the name Mr. Airhead. He often has some good acts especially when he wears the FBI cap! But, as in the past, nobody throws any coins his way. Then there is Ms. Blah Blah, who just blabs away and the boo's drown out her act! Well, the supervisors continue to do cartwheels and back flips to the annoyance of the audience, and finally, just decide to open the act to the floor!Over in ring two there is a different act! The witch from the old Haunted Hayride is cackling about the road up to her place on the mountain! She wants the paving removed and the dirt put back so her old broom works better on takeoff! Then in the same ring is something they call a police department. Word has it they are conducting a disappearing act. People say they never see them. And on the other side of ring two is the road crew. They are a few clowns playing in a sandbox trying to design road work on a small scale before they attack the poor roads of the township!The best act is taking place in ring three. This is the longest running circus act in township history. According to the three judges; Tom, Dick and Harvey, the act called "the Tricksells" is the most expensive act to come to town. Nowhere in the annuls of the township records has any act turned a corner store, a truck repair garage, and a community center into an eyesore quicker than the "Tricksells!" What bothers the patrons of this act is that the cost of tickets to get into this tent is astronomical! To beat all, it is an ongoing act, sponsored by taxpayer dollars!So come one, come all, to the "Bungling Brothers Burnum and Bailout Circus" with shows once a month at the township meeting tent.Richard M.
