Parryville Council approved paying the bill for its recent road project to replace Main Street.

Council members noted that the street is so smooth that now there is an issue with people driving too fast."The potholes were great speed bumps to slow down traffic," said Mike Grant, president.Parryville received $62,709 from Carbon County Commissioners for the road and Parryville paid $52,931 as it's share.Grant said that Harrity Road should be the next road slated for repairs."It should take our yearly liquid fuels funds," he said. He estimated that there is a 400 foot section that is narrow and decaying."I know that we're going to lose a section about three feet wide from the winter plowing," he said.Grant also noted that the old borough pick up truck has reached the end of it's life."We got all our use out of it," he said. The new truck will be paid off in 22 months, he noted."Rather than use the old truck, we can save more by having our stone delivered to the site by a triaxle," he said. "We won't need the old truck so we might as well get rid of it."The truck is old, possibly a 1982 to 86 and comes with a snow plow.Council is accepting bids for the truck.Grant said that when the new truck is paid for, he suggests the borough purchase a small pick up truck.Council voted to have the light replaced at the church. The light pole had been knocked down by a motorist.Kathy Hawk, council member, presented information she learned while attending a community informational exchange seminar in Tamaqua. She said that the seminar gave hints on fundraisers, neighborhood watch and ways to enhance communities by giving residents a place to display their creativity. She handed out information to share ideas with other council members.Council secretary Dana Brubaker will be presenting a tentative 2013 budget at the next meeting for review.Council is seeking Boy Scouts or others who wish to do community service and paint the lines at the basketball court.Council also voted to disperse $2,626 to the Parryville Fire Company. The funds are from the Volunteer Fire Relief Fund.
