Suppose for a moment you didn't. Imagine waking up and not knowing where you are or who the people around you are. Are you scared? Worried?Imagine, if you can, not knowing how to dress yourself and having to rely on other people to assist you with your activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing and shaving. Imagine not remembering how to swallow.We can only try to imagine how it feels to have these problems, but for people with Alzheimer's disease and those who care for them it's an everyday occurrence. Visit the Wall of Memories to see pictures of local people who have or had Alzheimer's disease.Did you know:• As many as 5.4 million people in the United States are living with Alzheimer's?• Alzheimer's is the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only cause of death among the top 10 in the U.S. that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed?• Payments for care are estimated to be $200 billion in the U.S. in 2012?The Fourth Annual Alzheimer's Family Fun Festival & Walk to End Alzheimer's will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Mauch Chunk Lake Park, Lentz Trail, Jim Thorpe.The event begins with registration for the Walk to End Alzheimer's at 10 a.m. and a car cruise sponsored by the Jukebox Cruisers. Jupiter's Arrow will provide live musical entertainment throughout the event. The Walk begins at 11 a.m. There will be chair massages, a Chinese auction, bake sale, and other events throughout the day. St. John's Lutheran Church Youth Group will offer concessions and drinks.
