A Lansford man was sentenced to a state prison term in Carbon County court after pleading guilty to burglary and theft charges. He was one of several defendants who were scheduled for trial this week in the county court to enter guilty pleas.

Lansford incidentDavid A. Kovich, 28, was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass to serve 18 to 36 months in a state correctional institution on the burglary count and six to 24 months on a theft charge, with the terms running concurrently. In addition the jail term will be followed by one year probation.Kovich is currently serving a state prison term imposed in Schuylkill County.Kovich was charged by Lansford police for an entry to the property at 47 W. Water St., with Mary and Ann Ciganes the listed victims.Serfass also ordered Kovich to supply a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee, get a drug and alcohol (D&A) evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, have no contact with the victims, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, and when released on parole perform 150 hours of community service.He was given credit for 193 days spent in jail on the charges.Other pleasOther pleas entered included the following:Kendra Crostley, 20, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of simple assault. She admitted assaulting Eileen Folchetti in Lehighton on Oct. 22, 2010.President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, and have no contact with the victim.Ricky Hunsicker Jr., 27,of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested by Lansford police police on Dec. 18, 2009. In a plea bargain, a charge of possession with intent to deliver was dropped.Judge Serfass placed him on probation for a year and ordered him to get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance on D&A use, and render 50 hours of community service.Charles S. Poff III, 40, of Saylorsburg, pleaded to one count of criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft. He was arrested on April 12 at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township. He was involved in the theft of $1,681.16 worth of merchandise.Serfass placed him on probation for two years and ordered he render 150 hours of community service. The term runs consecutive to a term he is currently serving in Lehigh County.Cody S. Kmetz, 21, of Nesquehoning, pleaded in two pending cases. He pleaded to one count of theft for an incident on Feb. 28 in Nesquehoning. He was charged with entering the vehicle of Danielle Thomas and James Albaugh and removing a Sirus satellite radio.He also pleaded to one count of terroristic threats for an incident on Feb. 11 at his residence. Police responded to the home to a report of an assault. Police said Kmetz was involved in an altercation with his father, Scott Kmetz.Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the pleas but deferred sentencing to a later date.Each defendant sentenced must pay court costs, which average close to $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
