Twenty-four area residents among 98 arraigned by DA

Twenty-area residents were among 98 who were arraigned on criminal charges Tuesday before District Attorney Karen Noon Byrne in the Schuylkill County courthouse and all entered pleas of not guilty and requested jury trials. They were:

Fritz, 26, of 233 Catawissa St., Tamaqua, charged by Coaldale Patrolman Joseph Krebs, with driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol, exceeding maximum speed by traveling 62 miles-per-hour in 45 zone, and driving an unregistered vehicle.Charles Thatcher, 42, of 5 E. Spece with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, kidnapping, criminal conspiracy, person not to possess firearms, unlawful restraint, simple assault, simple assault presenting a physical menace, recklessly endangering another person and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.Daniel William Dull, 25, also charged by Trooper Spece with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, kidnapping, criminal conspiracy, unlawful restraint, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault.Information filed to court claims Reber and Dull led Bryan Robert Smith, 26, Orwigsburg, into the woods behind Smith's home, sat him on the ground with his legs around a tree and tied him to the tree, placed his arms around the tree and bound them and placed a gag over his mouth. They left him there for 20 hours and when they returned late at night they found him not breathing. The area experienced high heat and humidity at that time. They waited four hours before going to the police to report Smith's death.Earl Samuel Siders III, 32, Minersville, charged by Minersville Patrolman Jeffrey R.
