A Lansford man was sentenced to a county prison term Thursday in Carbon County court on a charge of indecent assault. He was one of four defendants who previously pleaded guilty and was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Lansford incidentChristopher Miller, 23, was sentenced to serve five to 12 months in jail on the charge after Matika noted the defendant has a history of issues concerning his conduct with females.Miller was arrested by Lansford police for an incident on April 14 in which he inappropriately touched a 14-year-old girl in a home along Oak Street.Miller told Matika, "I'm trying to change my life around."Matika said Miller has three prior convictions for indecent assault.In addition to the jail term, Matika ordered Miller to get a mental health evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, submit to a sexual offenders evaluation, render 50 hours of community service after his release on parole, and have no contact with the victim. He was given credit for 107 days spent in jail on the charges.It was also noted Miller is facing a probation violation petition filed by the adult probation office.Two casesFrederick Ragland, 43, of Albrightsville, was sentenced to a county jail term in two cases.He was sentenced to serve 11 to 23 1/2 months in prison on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child and the same term on a charge of welfare fraud, with the terms running concurrently.On the endangering count, state police at Fern Ridge charged that Ragland left his two young children alone in their Indian Mountain Lakes development, Penn Forest Township, home on June 28, 2011, while he was at a local tavern drinking. Troopers responded to the area when they received a report of a four-year-old child wandering along a road in the development.Troopers said a 17-year-old girl was watching the children but told Ragland she had to leave, but he instead went to the tavern.The Department of Welfare charged that Ragland received public assistance funds at a time on 2010 when he was not entitled to the money.On the endangering charge, Ragland was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol (D&A) evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, and render 100 hours of community service. He was given credit for 149 days spent in jail on the charge.On the welfare count the same sentence and conditions were imposed along with the order to supply a DNA sample and make restitution to the state for $10,358.70.Other casesOther defendants sentenced were:Steven White, 20, of Nesquehoning, was sentenced to serve one to 12 months in the county prison on a charge of simple assault. He was arrested by Nesquehoning police for an incident at the county prison that occurred on Dec. 25, 2011. He threw a white powder substance on a corrections officer.The term runs consecutive to a prison term White is currently serving.He was also ordered to get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance on D&A use, and render 50 hours of community service.Dylan Brett Danko, 20, of Weatherly, was placed on probation for a year on two charges. He had pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and for loitering and prowling at night.The two counts stems from an incident in December 2011 that occurred in the area of the Weatherly Plaza.The probation terms run concurrently. Danko was also ordered to render 50 hours of community service, and make restitution of $702.60 for damages to a vehicle in the prowling incident.Each defendant must also pay court costs, which average close to $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee.
