Carbon native given U.S. Navy promotion

A former Parryville resident has received the commission of Chief Warrant Officer with the U.S. Navy.

Tara L. Snead, daughter of Rodney and Irene Hudock of Parryville, received the promotion during a Commissioning Ceremony held in Norfolk, Va.Her parents attended the event.It was also noted that she is deemed the prestigious label of a "Mustang," which is an officer who is promoted up from the ranks of Navy enlisted personnel through an in-service procurement program, with no interruption of their duty status.It is understood that the Mustang Officer was a career sailor, and normally wears one or more Good Conduct Medals.Snead enlisted in the Navy in December 1990.She is a graduate of Lehighton Area High School.Chief Warrant Officer Snead and her husband, Andy, have three sons, Anthony, Charles, and Brandon, and a daughter, Grace.During the Commissioning Ceremony, her family conducted the donning of the officer uniform.Snead's duty assignments include recruit training in Orlando, Fla.; Yeoman 'A' School in Meridian, Miss.; Naval Air Facility in Washington D.C.; Naval Air Reserve in Norfolk, Va.; Surface Reserve Force in New Orleans; Helicopter Counter Mine Measures Squadron 14 in Norfolk, Va.Also Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Unit 206, Norfolk; Naval Special Warfare Group FOUR, Norfolk; Special Boat Team TWENTY, Norfolk; U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk; Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa, Djibouti, Africa, and Navy Operational Support Center, Norfolk.Upon completion of Office Indoctrination School in Newport, Rhode Island, she will report to Assault Craft Unit 4, Norfolk, as the administrative/legal officer.Senior Chief Petty Officer Snead's personal awards include Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (7), Joint Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, Navy 'E,' Navy Good Conduct Medal (6), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Medal, and Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
