Summer concerts

The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the sixth year of its free Summer Concert Series, with mini concerts scheduled every other Thursday into September. The next concert will be held today and will feature The Morrison Family and Friends.The final concert will take place on Sept. 13, with It Takes Two (variety). www.tamaqua.net.Senior citizensThe Tamaqua Seniors met Aug. 23 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 87 members in attendance. One new member, Norman Vorchheimer, was welcomed.President Jean Machamer conducted the business session and provided an inspirational reading. Secretary Joan Ann Garber and vice president Nancy Gerber provided their reports. Norma Scheidy was added to the sick list.Rose Vallee provided the invocation, entitled "Divine Creation." Upcoming events were discussed, including a trip to the Sands Casino on Aug. 29 and flu shots on Sept. 20, at noon, at the Tamaqua Community Center.The flu shots are being coordinated with the Tamaqua Rite Aid.The meeting concluded with cards and social games.The group meets every Thursday at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.SS. Peter and PaulFatima Saturday will be observed this weekend in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by a recitation of the rosary and devotions before the 8 a.m. Mass.Rosary Sunday will be celebrated on Sept. 2 with a recitation of the rosary before the 8 a.m. Mass. Members of the parish Holy Rosary Society will attend the 8 a.m. Mass and receive Holy Communion as a group.Nonperishable food items will be collected this weekend for the Food Pantries of Catholic Charities. Donations may be placed in the baskets at the rear of the church.Mass on Labor Day will be celebrated at 8 a.m. First Friday observances will be held next week.Rush taxesRush Township Tax Collector Dolores Walck has announced a change in her schedule.The tax office will be open on Friday, Aug. 31, from 10-11 a.m. and from 6-7 p.m. Additionally, the office will be open on Sept. 4 and Sept. 5 and will be closed on Sept. 11 and Sept. 12.These are changes from the hours found on the tax bills.First MethodistThe Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. The service will include Holy Communion and a children's message offered by Marge Kropp.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, the quilters will meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, the chancel choir will rehearse at 7 p.m.St. Peter's UnionThe Rev.
