Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Aug. 14 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 42 members in attendance. The business session was conducted by President Eleanor Schmerfeld.Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered an invocation. Reports were presented by secretary Gloria Gerhard and treasurer Shirley Becker. Birthday wishes were extended to Francis Kaminsky and Hub and Shirley Becker were congratulated on their wedding anniversary. The Beckers provided cupcakes for all in attendance in celebration of the special occasion.The group meets the second and fourth Monday of every month. Anyone 50 or older is welcome to join.Cressona bandThe Cressona Band's Aug. 5 performance at Heisler's Dairy Bar, postponed by rain, has been rescheduled for this Sunday, Aug. 26. The band will perform from 4-6 p.m., weather permitting, and the performance will include show tunes, marches, overtures and songs of yesteryear.The dairy bar is located in the Lewistown Valley.The public is welcome to attend this free performance.Clothing driveThe Tamaqua Raider Band Boosters will sponsor a used clothing drive this weekend. The Citizen's Fire Company will provide the collection site. Hours will be Friday, from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon.Calvary EvangelicalAll services connected with Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church will be held at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Road, through Labor Day.Sunday services are held at 10:25 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. Edward Bean officiating.Also on Sunday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.The annual Tabernacle services will begin Aug. 24 and continue through Labor Day evening. Evening services will be held daily at 7 p.m.Special guests will be evangelist and song leaders, the Rev. Larry and Tamala Leckrone of Kurtz, Ind.; and missionaries Rod and Jan Dormer on Aug. 29.Special music will be presented by the Wehry Family on Sept. 2 and Larry Moore on Labor Day, Sept. 3.First MethodistThe Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. The service will include a children's message offered by Marge Kropp.Also on Sunday, the film "Seven Days in Utopia" will be presented at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend this free presentation. Refreshments will be provided.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, the quilters will meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, the chancel choir will rehearse at 7 p.m.St. Peter's UnionThe Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Summer Sunday school will meet at 10:15 a.m.The prayer group will meet at 4:45 p.m. next Thursday. Also on Thursday, the senior choir will rehearse at 7:30 p.m.
