The appeal of Lehighton interests to have the proposed "Mahoning Interchange" on the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeast Extension changed in designation to the "Lehighton Interchange" is being met with formidable opposition. As a result, it appears the Mahoning Interchange designation will stick. The Palmerton Industrial Development Assn. and the Palmerton Businessmen's Assn. are opposing the Lehighton move, pointing out it should be called the "Panther Valley" exchange. The say Palmerton is entitled to as much consideration as Lehighton, and probably more considering it is a larger community.
