Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, will hold a Service of the Word worship at Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. 3rd St., Lehighton at the 9 a.m. Sunday service. The program will include a report from the recent ELCA Youth Gathering. Eleven teens and six adult chaperones were among 33,000 "Citizens with the Saints" for a five-day experience in New Orleans in late July. Coffee House fellowship follows. All are welcome.Members planning to attend the "Bike Nite" celebration downtown on Aug. 11, are asked to stop by the church booth. Three Lutheran bodies: Trinity, Dinkey Memorial, and St. John's, Mahoning will be present handing out bottled water and treats.Upcoming events at Trinity include Sunday School for all ages starting weekly on Sept. 9 at 10:15 a.m.Trinity's Golf Outing at Mahoning Valley Country Club, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30. It will benefit Family Promise of Carbon County, who assists homeless and low income families throughout the county. Pre-registration is necessary. The Community Day will feature exhibit tables from local churches, as well as community organizations.Admission to the pool that day will be free and free hot dogs will be served while they last.LAHS yearbooks arriveLehighton Area High School yearbooks have arrived. Pickup dates for anyone who has ordered a book are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13; and from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14. Distribution will be from the refreshment stand in the high school foyer.Community dinner offeredAll Saints Episcopal Church, 301 N. Second St., Lehighton, will host a free community dinner from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16. Everyone is invited. For information, call (610) 377-2675.Picnic in the Park plannedFranklin Township Lions Club will host the Franklin Lions Picnic in the Park from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Phifer Ice Dam Park.The day will include bingo and a cake walk. The Mudflaps will perform from 4-6 p.m.Everyone is invited to bring a chair or blanket to enjoy the picnic in the park and have a time of camaraderie with friends and neighbors.Franklin Township residents who are seniors (over 65 years old), can register for free food and door prizes at Forest Inn Masonry, Forest Inn. Free meals will be served to seniors who are preregistered from noon to 2 p.m. Food will also be available throughout the day. Senior citizens must be present at 5 p.m. to win prizes.This event is in place of the Franklin Township Senior Day activities.For additional information call (610) 377-5593. The event is held rain or shine.LAMS orientation plannedLehighton Area Middle School will hold an orientation for all fifth grade students and all other new students at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, in the middle school auditorium.The presentation will cover entering the building, lunch procedures, locker use, transportation and student conduct/dress.The program will last approximately one hour. Students should use the main entrance.4-H reunionPennsylvania 4-H is celebrating its 100th anniversary by holding an open house from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30 at Mahoning Valley Ambulance, 902 Mill Road, Lehighton. A short program will be held at 1 p.m. The program will honor the oldest male and female 4-H member in Carbon County and there will be other fun activities. CarbonExt@psu.edu.LAMS schedules classesLehighton Area Middle School, 301 Beaver Run Road, will begin classes for students in fifth through eighth grade on Monday, Aug. 27, Dr. Mark McGalla, principal, announced. Students should report to the school between 7:10 and 7:25 a.m. Classes will start at 7:30 a.m. Dismissal will begin at 2:14 p.m.Lunch will be served on the first day at a cost of $2.20.Handbook/planners which provide information pertaining to school policies and regulations will be given to every student on the first day. Also, on the first day students will be given various forms to be filled out and returned. Insurance forms included are both for medical and dental coverages and must be mailed directly from home.
