WWII veterans invited to luncheon concert

World War II veterans from Carbon County are invited to attend a luncheon concert show next month.

The show features the "Glenn Miller Orchestra", and will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe. It will be sponsored by Richard and Darlene Nothstein of Palmerton, goodwill ambassadors who have spearheaded several various veterans events over the years."As you know, Glenn Miller and his orchestra died during World War II as they were traveling Europe entertaining our troops," Richard Nothstein said. "He is truly "The Band of Brothers" and contributed his talent and his life as his war effort."Nothstein said several tickets are still available for the event. Any Carbon World War II veteran who would like to attend should call 610-826-7339. Those who do will receive a sign-in sheet, where they indicate their name, phone number, guest or caregiver. The sign-up sheets will be accepted on a first-come basis. The deadline is Aug. 15."Since you are a World War II veteran, Darlene and I think it would be most fitting to have you listen to Glenn Miller's music since he could not personally continue to deliver it as he intended back during the war," Nothstein said. "It would please him that he still lives on through his music and that it brings joy to those it was intended for."Those who arrive for the concert at Penn's Peak should identify themselves as part of the "Hometown Proud World War II Veterans Group".Nothstein added "we hope to see you on September 11, and thank you for serving our nation in its time of great need."
