County-wide cleanup event is approved

Two weeks in September have been set aside by the Schuylkill County Commissioners for the annual county wide fall cleanup event for collection of electronics waste and tires.

At Wednesday's public meeting held at the courthouse in Pottsville the commissioners set the cleanup dates from Sept. 17 through 29.Approval was given to advertise for bids for haulers. The bids will be opened at a commissioner public meeting on Sept. 5 and contracts awarded Sept. 12.Commissioner Frank Staudenmeir stated the purpose of this program is to provide the general public with a convenient outlet for unwanted and/or broken household electric items and old tires and is clearly designed to prevent dumping in the landfills and provides a safer, convenience and legal disposal of the items.Items which can be disposed through this program are as follows:Alarm and radio clocks, answering machines, camcorders, can openers, cellular phones, coffee makers, compact disc players, all types of computer equipment, copiers, duplicators, DVD players, fax machines, electric typewriters, laptop computers, microwave ovens, modems, Radios, pages, printers, remote controls, scanners, stereo equipment, telephones and telephone equipment, televisions, toasters, toaster ovens, transparency makes, uninteruppted power supplies, VCRs and video game consoles and components.Nine dropoff sites will be available to drop-off the items and dates they will accept the items are as follows:Tamaqua Tranfer Station, Sewage Plant Road, Tamaqua, open 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily; Wayne Township Municipal Building, SR183 and Municipal Road, Thursday, Sept. 20, noon to 6 p.m; Friday, Sept. 21, 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.;

C.E.S. Landill Inc., located a quarter mile east of Interstate 81 and SR25, from Monday, Sept. 12 through Friday, Sept. 21 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 22, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.Also, City of Pottsville, City Garage, E. Railroad St., Sept. 17 through 21 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m; Ringtown, W. Apple St., Sept. 20 and 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; North Manheim Township Municipal Building, 303 Manheim Road, off SR61, Sept. 20 and 21, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sept. 22 from 8 a.m. to noon; Minersville Borough, Compost Site on North Delaware Avenue, Sept. 24 through 28, from 10 a. m. to 5 p.m., and Sept. 29 from 8 a.m. to noon; Porter Township Municipal Building, 309 W.
