Bloodmobile

The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will return to Tamaqua on July 18. The Tamaqua Salvation Army gym will be turned into a blood collection center, which will be open from 1 to 6 p.m.Anyone 17 or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good general health is eligible to donate blood. A mini health history will be done at the time of donation to further determine eligibility status.The blood supply across the United States has reached critically low levels. While there is a shortage of all blood types, there is an emergency need for O negative, O positive, A negative and A positive blood types.This visit is being sponsored by City Limits Bakery of Tamaqua. All donors will receive a coupon for a free carton of Friendly's ice cream.Summer concertsThe Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the sixth year of its popular free Summer Concert Series, with mini concerts scheduled every other Thursday into September. The next concert will be held July 19, and will feature Steve Brosky and Jimmy Meyer, whose genre is blues.Future events include: Aug. 2, Lizard Creek (Celtic); Aug. 16, Large Flower Heads (60s classics); Aug. 30, The Todd Wolfe Band; Sept. 13, It Takes Two (variety).The concerts are held from 6-8 p.m., on the platform at the Tamaqua Train Station, weather permitting.For more information, contact the chamber at (570) 668-1880 or email

www.tamaqua.net.Cressona bandThe Cressona Band will be appearing locally two more times over the summer months, providing free entertainment to all.The next performance will be held at the East End Playground, at 7 p.m., on July 18.The final appearance will be Aug. 5, from 4-6 p.m., at Heisler's Dairy Bar in the Lewistown Valley.All of the performances will include show tunes, marches, overtures and songs of yesteryear.St. Peter's UnionThe Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Summer Sunday school will meet at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the youth group will meet at 6 p.m.The prayer group will meet at 4:45 p.m. next Thursday.Calvary UMThe Rev. Ed Bean will officiate at this Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service for Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. All services and activities through Labor Day will be held at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Rd.Also on Sunday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m., at the tabernacle.Calvary will be sponsoring two gospel concerts this month. The Dixie Melody Boys will perform at 7 p.m. on July 12 and The Pickerings will perform at 7 p.m. on July 19. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. Guest speaker will be Chris McCarthy of Child Evangelism Fellowship.All young people, age 10 and older, are welcome to attend the Calvary Youth meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday. The meeting will be held at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle on Valley Road.
