Norman Burger said contacts continue to be made for content for the 250th anniversary of Chestnuthill Township, which includes the four Pleasant Valley Townships which were split off. There were also parts of townships outside the basic area that were originally part of Chestnuthill.

Lou Robertella wrote articles on grist mills. Burger has been trying to contact him but so far he has been unsuccessful. Shelley DePaul will write about the Lenape people.Tricia Bauer of the Women of Ross has been contacted to find out what historical documents they may have."I'd like to get as many writers as possible," Burger said.A hard cover book can double the cost. Color also adds to cost. The format has to be refined over the next couple months.Burger said they should plan on the book having a retail cost of $25 or less.Nancy Gehr said a letter of explanation is needed before contacts can be made for sponsorships. She is willing to dress in period costume including a hoop skirt and walk around Brodheadsville.David Fleetwood said some up-front money is needed.Mark McComb, a Missouri publisher, contacted Burger about the possibility of printing the book when it is ready. He heard about the book from an article in the TIMES NEWS web edition. He sent three books in different styles to demonstrate their work.Burger has used TN Printing to print 150 copies of a 200-page softcover book. The cost was $22.50 with no color and the formatting completed by Burger. Other local printing companies will be contacted. The anniversary committee is considering 1,000 copies with a possible second printing."We have to know how much we need so we can make a budget," said Fleetwood.Burger submitted a letterhead as a possibility. It was voted to accept the concept. It has the logos from the four townships beginning with Chestnuthill on the far left and Ross on the far right. Next to Chestnuthill is Polk which was split from Chestnuthill and second from the right is Eldred which was cut off from Ross. Centered is Chestnuthill Township with the address.Janet Johnson said, "It is interesting in the order the logos were placed."There was talk of holding a raffle with a major prize and limited ticket sales such as a new car, a vacation or cruise, or money put toward groceries or even money itself.Brian Ahner said the ladies at the Gun Club hold basket socials that raise a lot of money. Johnson solicited donations for a Tricky Tray. She said you have to go personally for contributions, not just mail a letter.Although a 501c3 was applied for last May, the last time it was checked Burger was told they were working on applications from September 2011. "In the meantime we can work under Chestnuthill Township's 501c3. The form, when approved, will make donations tax deductible.Nancy Gehr asked if there would be a big blow-out event in September 2013. She volunteered to be on the committee.Burger said he would fund a web site. Fleetwood volunteered to contribute. Burger's son will be asked to set one up. It should be up and running before the West End Fair. "The more people know about us, the more curious they become," said Burger.Ahner suggested having field trips where the public is invited to gain interest.The next meeting of the anniversary committee will be July 19, 7 p.m., and is open to the public.
