New Lehighton area school superintendent is sworn in

New Lehighton Area School District superintendent Jonathan J. Cleaver was sworn in by Judge Steven R. Serfass on Wednesday morning at the Carbon County Courthouse.

In 1999, Cleaver was first employed as a special-education teacher in Berwick, and then moved on to the positions of dean of students, assistant principal and finally principal of the Berwick Area High School in 2008.For the past two years, he has held the position of the coordinator of Curriculum, Instruction, and Grants at LASD.Cleaver, who hails from Berwick, graduated from Mansfield University in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in education. He attained his master's degree in educational leadership from Wilkes University along with a K-12 Principal Certification. In 2009, he received his Superintendent's Letter of Eligibility from Marywood University.Cleaver, along with his wife Tanya and their three sons, reside in Berwick.
