Chestnuthill Property ID Signs must be up by the end of July. There is still time to order your sign at the park and install by the deadline. Proceeds benefit the West End Fire Co., ambulance and WEPOSC. Hours to order at the park building are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. For more information call Bernie Kozen, West End Park & Open Space Commission (570) 992-9733.Triple treatWestern Pocono Lioness Club welcomed three speakers to its last meeting.Maria Jirav-Torres, a bilingual domestic violence counselor with Women's Resources of Monroe County, who does educational programs for professionals and in schools. She is one of over two dozen Women's Resources staff members.Torres said she hopes the West End will also have its own facility in due time, calling it and the Coolbaugh area the forgotten parts of the county. She reminded her listeners about the West End Vigil and thanked the club for its financial support.She left folders for members to share the Women's Resource contact information and the reminder that each one could help end the epidemic of violence, noting that her clients are getting younger and younger. The hot line is (570) 421-4200.The second speaker was Michael Sabon, Eagle Scout candidate, who shared more information about his project at Mountain View Park in Tannersville and the need for funds for that project. The club presented him with a check to help him with the project, a new trail as well as signage.The third speaker was one of the Lioness Club scholarship winners for the coming year, Samantha Frable of Saylorsburg, who was accompanied by her mother Alice.Samantha will be attending Penn State University, majoring in veterinary and biomedical science. While at Pleasant Valley High School she was a part of the Leo Club, attended the Lions Leadership Camp, and belonged to the National Honor Society.The club will be holding its next meeting July 24. At the August meeting, a minifashion show will be held. It is a preview of the Sept. 30 fashion show being held at Hideway Hills in Kresgeville.Hypertufa demonstrationThe West End Park and Open Space Commission will present a free Hypertufa Demonstration at the Haney/VanBuskirk Park, Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, July 14.Hypertufa is popular in making garden ornaments using sand, peat moss and other natural materials.
