Carbon County treasurer Ronald J. Sheehan, a lifetime resident of Jim Thorpe, has recently been elected to serve as president of the County Treasurers Association of Pennsylvania at the 64th annual conference in Clarion, Pa.

Sheehan previously served as a vice president of the association for the past two years. He also served as host committee chairman for the 2009 conference at Skytop Lodge, Skytop."I am humbled and honored that my fellow treasurers have selected me to lead this fine organization," Sheehan said.Sheehan is serving his third term as Carbon County treasurer. Prior to being elected treasurer, he served 10 years as accountant/fiscal deputy for the county controller's office and 10 years in the banking industry.He also was a past Jim Thorpe borough councilman and served on many community service organizations, boards and authorities; and has been an integral part of the Carbon County Ancient Order of Hibernians and was a founder of the St. Patrick's Day parade.In addition to being named president of the Treasurers Association for the 2012-2013 term, Sheehan will be hosting the 65th annual conference at Split Rock Lodge in Carbon County in 2013.Sheehan is the son of the late John W. and Shirley (O'Neill) Sheehan and is a 1983 graduate of Jim Thorpe High School.The mission of the Treasurers Association is to "bring into closer association and cooperation the county treasurers of various counties, to secure more uniformity and cooperation in the conduct of their offices; to improve their services to the public; to sponsor legislator; and for the general benefit and mutual welfare of the different county treasurers' offices and of the citizenry of the Commonwealth."The organization is made up of treasurers and financial officers from all 67 counties across the commonwealth.
