Golden Agers

The June 11 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers was held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Lansford, 1 East Abbott St. The meeting was called to order by President Ronnie Bazik, with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Verna Lazorchick read a poem for observance of Flag Day. Irene Hudasky led the singing of patriotic songs. New member Estelle Sverchek was introduced and welcomed by the group.Rose Marie Mikulski was recognized for her work with the American Cancer Society and Sue Dopira, Verna Lazorchick, Fran Hager, Helen Neifert were also recognized for participation in the Senior Games.Members celebrating birthdays in January, February, March, April, May and June will be honored at the next meeting to be held on Monday, June 25 at St. John's Slovak Lutheran Church, Lansford, beginning at 1 p.m.Summit HillLunch for childrenA free lunch program for school-aged children of the Panther Valley School District is offered Monday through Friday at the Summit Hill Heritage Center, the former St. Paul United Church of Christ at Hazard and Chestnut streets, Summit Hill.The program, a partnership of the center, the Lansford Summit Hill Community Partnership and the Feed the People organization, is operated in conjunction with the Pa. Department of Education.The lunch is served from noon to 1 p.m.The program is operated through donations that have been received from churches, an employer, the 14-Acre Farm, White Bear, and anonymous citizens. The largest donors have been the KME Corporation, Nesquehoning, and the Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansford.Volunteers are being sought to help serve the lunches. Those volunteering do not have to attend all five weekdays. Abbott St., Lansford, will hold an informal worship. This will be a spiritual, peaceful, evening service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this relaxed, brief, musical, evening prayer.
