Summer celebration

The Pottsville Campus of McCann School of Business and Technology will host an Open House, from 2-6 p.m. on June 21. Marvin Washington, former Denver Broncos Super Bowl champion and New York Jet, will be available to sign autographs.Festivities will include a tour of the campus, program spotlights, food and games for the entire family.For more information, or to RSVP, call (570) 622-7622. The campus is located at 2650 Goodglen Rd., Pottsville.Missing nameThe name of Jacqueline McMullen was inadvertently missed from the list of Tamaqua Area High School honored during a special graduate Mass in Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Jacqueline also was the recipient of the Holy Name Society Award for having the highest average of the honorees.Senior citizensThe Tamaqua Seniors met June 7 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 87 members in attendance. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session and provided an inspirational reading. Rose Vallee provided the invocation, entitled "Heartfelt Words of Praise." Vice President Nancy Gerber and secretary Joan Anne Garber provided their reports.Get well cards were sent to George Fisher and Sis Mengel. Joan Deitrich was added to the sick list. Upcoming events include a trip to Knoebel's in June, a Chinese auction in July and a picnic in August.The meeting concluded with cards, social games and refreshments, including meatball hoagies and chips.A representative from Senior Services will be at the community center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 19 to distribute vouchers. Requirements include proof of age (60 or over); identification; a utility bill as proof of address; and proof of income.The group meets every Thursday at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.Calvary UMThe Rev. Ed Bean will officiate at this Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. The service will include celebration of Father's Day and Graduation Sunday.A time of prayer and praise will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.Graduate recognition will be held during the 10:25 a.m. service on June 17.Good News Day Camp will be held from June 25 through June 29 at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle. Activities will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and will include Bible lessons, crafts, recreation and a few surprises. James Cavallero will officiate at the 6:30 p.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. The change in time is for this week only and is due to the Tamaqua SummerFest. The church will be participating in the festival with a refreshment stand.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.The summer movie series will begin June 24, at 7 p.m., with a presentation of the film "Wesley," which dramatizes the life of the founder of Methodism.
