Easter Seals planning annual Walk With Me event in Allentown

Easter Seals Eastern PA (ESEP) will hold its annual Walk With Me event at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at the Allentown Rose Garden. ESEP has served the Lehigh Valley, Berks County and the Poconos for more than 85 years. Funds raised locally go directly to helping people like Logen, a 14-month-old from Kunkletown.

Easter Seals is the leading nonprofit provider of services for individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, physical disabilities and other special needs. Logen was born with a rare condition known as Chylothorax. Thirty-two weeks into her pregnancy, Logen's mother learned that his lungs were surrounded with amniotic fluid. She was admitted for amniotic taps to expel fluid from Logen's lungs. Complications included a collapsed lung, developmental delays and colostaysis, which affects the liver. When Logen came home, he was unable to lie on his belly, and could not hold formula in his mouth. Thanks to ESEP therapies, Logen now crawls, sits up and pulls up to "furniture walk." He is eating stage three foods and even some mashed table foods. "Logen has made tremendous progress," ESEP CEO Nancy Knoebel said. "He's now 14 months old and is such a happy little boy. We at ESEP are proud to tell stories like Logen's and are determined to provide the best care possible so he continues to get stronger and improve. Community support allows Easter Seals to provide the supports and services for children like Logen so they receive the special care they need."Last year, ESEP's Walk With Me attracted 400 people and raised more than $40,000. Those donations supported local programs and services.Adult registration includes a meal ticket, event t-shirt and sport sack. Children 15 and under attend the walk and enjoy crafts and activities at no charge. The first 100 kids to arrive receive a free t-shirt.
