Tamaqua man admits to assault counts; gets time-served

A Tamaqua man admitted in Carbon County court on Thursday afternoon to assaulting his ex-girlfriend, and her boyfriend, and was sentenced to time-served.

Thomas A Tessitore, 29, pleaded guilty before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic to two counts of simple assault and one of criminal trespass, as a felony two.He was arrested by Lansford police on July 14, 2008, for an incident at the residence of his ex-girlfriend, Nicole Caballero, at 30 Cortright St. Police said Tessitore broke into the residence and assaulted Caballero and her boyfriend, Nieko Evans. He fled the scene before police arrived.He was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition (ARD) probation program for first time offenders but was revoked from it for not paying fines and costs.Nanovic sentenced him to time served (30 days) to one year in jail and he was immediately paroled on the trespass charge. He was ordered to get a drug and alcohol (D&A) evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, supply a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee, and zero tolerance imposed on D&A use.On the two assault counts he was placed on probation for a year on each, concurrent to each other but consecutive to the trespass count.Bad checkGeorge Tallada, 44, of Saylorsburg, pleaded to one count of bad check, as a misdemeanor one.He was arrested by Mahoning Township police for issuing a check for $3,550.31 to 84 Lumber, located along SR443, on July 28, 2009, which was returned for insufficient funds.Nanovic placed him on probation for 18 months and ordered he make restitution of $3,550.31, and render five hours of community service per month while on probation.It was noted that Tallada has repaid all but $900 of the restitution.Each defendant must also pay court costs, which average about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
