Four first time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition (ARD) probation program on Thursday by Judge Steven R. Serfass.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program their record will be wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, the commonwealth reserves the right to prosecute them on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.Placed were:Nicole Danielle Baranowski, 38, of Lehighton, was placed for two years on a charge of theft by failure to make required disposition of funds. She was charged by Lehighton police with taking $2,345.15 from the Dollar General Store, N. First St., where she was then manager.Serfass assessed $350 for the cost of the program, ordered her to make restitution of $2,345.15, and render 100 hours of community service.David J. Bonessi, 26, of Islip Terrace, N.Y., was placed for 18 months on a simple assault charge. He was arrested by Jim Thorpe police for an incident that occurred on Oct. 27, 2011, at the Broadway Grille & Pub, in which Kevin Toomey is the listed victim.He was assessed $350, and ordered to make restitution in an amount to be determined for medical bills, and render 75 hours of community service.Cheyenne Corrynne Miller, 18, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Lansford, was placed for a year on a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana. She was arrested on March 20 along Blakeslee Blvd., in Mahoning Township.She was assessed $350, and ordered to render 50 hours of community service.David P. Salla, 26, of Bethlehem, formerly of Coaldale, was placed for two years on a charge of theft by unlawful taking. He was arrested by state police at Lehighton for an incident in which Shawn Kresge is the listed victim and occurred in Penn Forest Township.He was assessed $350, and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, render 100 hours of community service, and make restitution of $8,043.61.Each defendant must also pay court costs, which average close to $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
