Firefighters and police in Kline Township responded to the Mile Hill (SR309) in Kline Township Wednesday morning after a motorist heard a dog barking and noticed it perched on a high ledge overlooking the road.

"There was no way I could reach the dog," Township Police Chief John Petrilla said. "I radioed dispatch to have McAdoo Fire Company bring their ladder truck."Petrilla closed one northbound lane of SR309 while firefighters arrived.Hearing small cries from the dog, firefighters were quick to get their ladder in the air. They became more worried as the dog stepped closer and closer to the edge of the rocks as firefighters moved their ladder closer. Just in time, Captain Dan Leshko of the McAdoo Fire Company, reached out and quickly grabbed the wet dog."I'm glad he didn't bite me," Leshko said.Also assisting in the rescue were fellow firefighters Eugene McHugh Jr.; Mike Bowman, chief engineer; Petrilla; and Rich Malardi, a concerned citizen.Petrilla said the dog (a female Brittany Spaniel) was picked up by Francis "Skip" Cremea, state dog warden, and transported to the Hillside
