Summer concerts

The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce is preparing to celebrate the sixth year of its popular free Summer Concert Series, which will begin June 7 with a blues concert by Sarah Ayres and Chris Dean. Other concerts in the series will include: June 21, Fred Douglas (oldies); July 5, Jeremiah Jones (country); July 19, Steve Brosky and Jimmy Meyer (blues); Aug. 2, Lizard Creek (Celtic); Aug. 16, Large Flower Heads (60s classics); Aug. 30, The Todd Wolfe Band; Sept. 13, It Takes Two (variety).The concerts are held from 6-8 p.m., on the platform at the Tamaqua Train Station, weather permitting.Sponsorships are still available.For more information, contact the chamber at (570) 668-1880 or email

www.tamaqua.net.School's out partyThe North and Middle Ward Playground Association will sponsor an "End of School" party on May 31 at the Washington Street playground. Festivities, for all ages, will be held from 7-9 p.m.Music will be provided by DJ Ray. The public is welcome to attend.Computer classesThe Tamaqua Salvation Army is sponsoring a series of free computer classes to the public. Computer labs are held every Monday, from 4-5 p.m., at 105 W. Ed Bean will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. Memorial Day service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will be held jointly with Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church and will be followed by a covered dish social.A combined Bible school, for Calvary and Zion Lewistown Churches, is being planned for June 11-15. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Owl Creek Road.High school and college graduates will be honored at the 8 a.m. Mass on June 3. Graduates are reminded to bring their caps and gowns and meet in the parish hall before Mass.Zion LutheranThe Rev. Jeffrey Kistler will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. The service will include recognition of graduating seniors and acolytes.
