Gina Greiner feted for 100th birthday

She is funny, articulate and has a great personality. Gina Greiner is also 100 years old.

Gina celebrated her birthday on Friday, May 11, with family and friends at a party held at the Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.Born in Elizabeth, N.J., she spent her life in Newark and then Iselin, N.J.She married her husband, Robert, and was his wife for 40 years until his death.She also worked for Globe Indemnity Co. in the claims department and traveled into New York City for many years for her job.An avid bowler, she was president of the bowling league for 60 years and bowled until she was in her 80s."I'm also a bingo hound along with being a bowling hound," she said."I challenge you to a bowling game," she said to her guests.She also loved to play pool, but noted, "It wasn't considered a woman's practice." She said that she seldom had the opportunity to play pool when she was younger because her brothers hogged the pool table.In her younger days, she loved to dance, but always with her clothes on, as her family was teasing her about whether she danced with them on or not."Why waste time being cold," she laughed. "I wore mine."She was a talented crafter, painter, which she said was "paint by numbers," and sewed, sometimes for family members' children."I made a lot of shirts for the little ones," she said.She also made needlepoint items and hand painted sweatshirts.Her niece, Georgina Snyder, was at her side, along with Franklin Wertman, a volunteer at the center, who is her card buddy. Additional family members and friends also attended the party.Gina was the ultimate hostess, always asking her guests if they wanted more cake."I am so excited," she said. "There is too much excitement here."She has been a resident of Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center since May 2009.
