Members of the Tamaqua American Legion Post 173 are asking the community for donations to help the post replace their aging inventory of American flags.

Joel Perry, Post Commander, said, "Our post has and continues to provide honor guard and funeral details for our fallen brethren, as well as color guard details for local parades. In addition, we line the main streets of Tamaqua with flags during all national and state holidays."Unfortunately, due to all the wear and tear of these activities, the post flags have fallen into disrepair and are in need of retirement and replacement. "This is a costly endeavor that our post cannot do alone. That is why we are asking for support from individuals, organizations and businesses."For anyone making a donation, the post will offer to display the donator's name, business or family member. Members also pointed out that in the past, donators would commemorate a flag in memory of a fallen comrade, family member or unit.Donations can be mailed or dropped off at: American Legion Post 173, ATTN: Post Commander, 206 W. Broad Street, Tamaqua PA 18252. Members ask that donators make checks out to American Legion Post 173 with a memo in the flag section stating "flag donation.""Our post has seen local units, soldiers, sailors, airman, Marines and your own family members deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and numerous other countries in the fight against terrorism," said Perry. "Please show your continued support for Old Glory and servicemen still fighting along side her by helping us to keep proudly displaying the stars and stripes throughout our community."
