Members and volunteers of the Tamaqua Area Animal Rescue (T.A.A.R.) held their fifth annual Dog Walk recently to raise monies for a permanent "no kill" shelter in Tamaqua to house lost and stray animals found in the borough and surrounding communities.

The walk was held along the Schuylkill Valley Heritage Trail located SR209 west of the borough in Walker Township. Currently, the organization has to rely on foster families or the Hillside Animal Shelter in Pottsville to take in the animals until their owners are located or an adoption takes place.Tamaqua Area Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide care and sanctuary for the lost, abandoned, abused, and neglected animals of Tamaqua and surrounding areas.
