The Concourse Club of Palmerton named Lydia Christine Anthony as its April Guiding Star.

A Guiding Star must be a female student in the top 25 percent of the senior class, involved in both school and community activities. Each Guiding Star receives a certificate, an engraved Guiding Star gold charm and a $100 cash award from the Concourse Club.The Palmerton Area High School senior is active in Varsity field hocky, Drama Club, Chorus, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Future Business Leaders of America, International Traveler's Club, Stage Crew, Senior Class President, Newspaper (Avenger), Student Council, Ski/Snowboard Club, Palmerton Against Animal Cruelty, Varsity boys tennis and Yearbook staff.Lydia, a musically talented young lady, sings, plays the flute, guitar, piano and saxophone. She performed for the members of the Concourse Club at the April meeting. All members enjoyed hearing her beautiful soprano voice.Lydia also participates in both the Zion Opera Workshop Musical Theatre Group in Lehighton as well as the Bach and Handel Chorale, Jim Thorpe, under the direction of Randall Perry.Her community involvement includes Palmerton Relay For Life, Carbon County Special Olympics, Angel 34 Children's Cancer Foundation, summer camp counseling with the Muscular Dystrophy Association and volunteering with her grandfather as he sponsors a trip for local Veterans to Washington, D.C. to tour the monuments and memorials.Lydia's hobbies include traveling abroad, finding new music and collecting photographs.Her future plans are to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts to major in music therapy.She is the daughter of Sheri and Christopher Anthony of Palmerton. She has two brothers, Matthew and Jonathan, and enjoys spending time with her family and her three dogs.
