Electrical workers perform public service in Summit Hill

Four members, including two Summit Hill, residents of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 375 spent a day performing community service for their local chapter by mulching and maintaining the younger trees in Ludlow Park last Saturday in preparation for the annual Arbor Day planting in Summit Hill.

"As we go through our apprenticeship with the union, we need to perform six hours of community service," said John Kupec III of Summit Hill. "We usually help with projects in Allentown so it was nice to be able to do something to help out our own town."Kupec was joined by Summit Hill resident Tony O'Gorman, Eric Keck of Penn Ridge and Tom Brisniski of Weatherly for the day long project in the park which included edging newly planted trees and mulching around them to help them stay moist.Kupec said the union is always looking for projects for its members to perform for non-profit organizations. Any organization with such community service work can contact Apprenticeship Director Paul Anthony at (610) 432-3976 for more information. In addition to the work Kupec and his fellow union members performed, his father John Kupec Jr. also worked on the gazebo cleaning out the flower beds around the structure and planting new hosta plants around it.Both projects were done in conjunction with the observance of Earth Day.
