Dogs of all descriptions converged at Locust Lake State Park in Barnesville over the weekend during the first annual Bark For Life benefit.

The event, organized by Tyler Resch of Clamtown Boy Scout Troop 755, consisted of a dog walk, cancer survivor ceremony, sled team display, obedience show, dog kissing and talent contest and a special search and rescue presentation.The event also featured a special appearance by Rufus, a therapy dog for the New Jersey area and Best in Show for 2006 Westminster."This walk provides a great opportunity to have fun, meet new friends and join with your K-9 family members to support ACS's Relay for Life," Resch, walk chairman, said."The event gives dog lovers a chance to become involved in raising funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Tamaqua and surrounding areas, which is set for June 22."Organizers pointed out the event shared the 2012 Relay for Lifetheme of "Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back." Many of the research advances for human cancer funded by the American Cancer Society are used to treat dogs with cancer as well. Resch said the event was held in honor of his neighbor Brad MacMillan and his sled team "Ma-Luk" and his efforts during the benefit.All the proceeds went to the Relay for Life of Tamaqua and surrounding areas.Resch and family members expressed their appreciation to all the dog lovers, volunteers and special guests who helped put this event together.
