His two run homerun gave the IronPigs a 2-0 lead in the first inning.Pitching star(s) - After giving up a two-run homer to Overbeck in the first inning, Yankee starter Michael O'Connor settled in to allow only two more hits over the next four, scoreless innings. Switch pitching reliever, Pat Venditte pitched three scoreless innings in relief of O'Connor.Key Inning - 1st Inning: Lehigh Valley jumps out to a 2-0 lead on Overbeck's 2nd homer of the season. IronPig starter Tom Cochran responded by hitting Scranton/WB leadoff hitter Kevin Russo and it go worse from there. A 5-run first erased the IronPig lead and decided the game.Key play - Lehigh Valley scorched the ball all day with line drives right at Yankee fielders. None of them as important and Derrick Mitchell's second in at-bat. Shortstop Mike Fontenot led off with a perfectly placed bunt-single. Mitchell lined O'Connor's pitch to centerfield. Rangy shortstop Ramiro Pena made a diving catch and promptly threw out Fontenot at first. The double play erased what could have been a big inning as the next IronPig batter Lou Montanez doubled to left. The fourth batter of the inning Tuffy Gosewisch grounded out to end the inning.Notes - Losing Lehigh Valley starter Tom Cochran (2-1) did not have his normal stuff. He lasted one-inning plus three batters and surrendered all eight Yankee runs... The Lehigh Valley bullpen did it again as they provided the true meaning of relief. ..Heavily used over the weekend, the combination of Dave Purcey, Jeremy Horst, Jake Diekman, and Brian Sanchez combined for seven scoreless innings… Diekman has now given up one run in 11-innings of relief (0.82 ERA)…Although Lehigh Valley pitching struck out a total of 12 Yankee batters, they did had some control issues by issuing eight walks... IronPigs issued six walks to the Yankees top three hitters…Recent acquisition Mike Fontenot is working on a short stint in Lehigh Valley. He has hit in six of his seven games and is batting .333 (8-for-24). Look for him in a Phillies cap soon…Yankee leadoff hitter Kevin Russo decimated Lehigh Valley pitching. Yesterday the outfielder reached base four-times in five at bats (3 walks, 1 HBP) and scored two runs.
