Marian Catholic students receive awards at science competition

Sister Bernard Agnes, IHM, principal, at Marian Catholic has announced that three students received awards during the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Regional Competition held at Easton Area High School.

Robert Valente, chemistry instructor at Marian Catholic and Lorraine Piehota, retired Bishop Hafey science instructor, were the sponsors.• Stephen Valente, senior, son of Robert and Michele Valente: Two Chemistry Projects; a $100 PPL Award; 1st Place Perfect Score; Presentation Award; $75 Michael Lazun Memorial 1st Place Presentation Award; and 6 Year Perseverance Award.• Ryan Darrough, sophomore, son of David and Colette Darrough: Behavioral Psychology; $50 Region 3 PJAS Award• Victoria Vetter, senior, daughter of Harry and Dawn Vetter: Microbiology; 6 Year Perseverance Award and 2nd Place Presentation AwardFirst Place winners will attend the state competition in May at Penn State University Park.In addition, Vetter and Valente recently represented Marian at the Pennsylvania Jr. Science and Humanities Symposium at Penn State.Vetter placed first in the Medicine, Health and Behavioral Science. She will represent Marian at the National Science and Humanities Symposium in Bethesda, Maryland in May.Valente placed third in the same division.
