Tamaqua Vehicle entrapment training

ANDREW LEIBENGUTH/TIMES NEWS Members of the Tamaqua Rescue Squad spent time recently cutting up two cars as part of their weekly vehicle and rescue training. The squad of volunteers, which are also the first to be called during a structure fire, respond to an average of 80 vehicle rescues a year within the eastern part of Schuylkill County. Bob Derr, Rescue Squad Chief, and Matt Bynon, Captain, stated their appreciation to the Tamaqua Transfer Station for routinely providing junk cars and land for training. The squad, which relies and operates solely on donations, operates two trucks, a heavy rescue and light rescue. One of the responsibilities of the squad is to place cribbing around the vehicle. Cribbing keeps the vehicle secure and allows for rescue personnel to work in and around the vehicle without the worries of it moving or causing injury to the people inside or responding emergency personnel.
