Municipality representatives to the Carbon County Telecommunications Commission voted 18-1 to allow the county commissioners to eventually take over the center, and dispatch the county's emergency services. Kidder Township cast the dissenting vote, and Weissport and Coaldale representatives didn't attend the meeting. This opens the door for the county to add a 911 system next year and also to build a new dispatch center at the proposed county prison in Nesquehoning.
